The past two weeks have been very busy for me so I forgot to make a blog post! In class last week we had a class period to sell a rotten apple. When starting I whipped up a quick mood board and color palette, then went straight in to making a word mark and catchy phrase. I have been rewatching Orange is the New Black and decided to play on that, and came up with Rotten is the New Fresh. When I finished creating the word mark I took the photos from my mood board and removed the  backgrounds and used them as my background for the assets I wanted to create. I decided to create a poste, packaging, and a billboard to showcase my design! I'm really pleased with the way it all turned and surprised I created it so quickly and on the spot. This week we had the opportunity to go to the Thomas Cooper Library and learn about ancient books. We were able to get out hands on a lot of books that were constructed in many different ways and with different materials. This really inspired me when thinking about my book and how I want to branch out and make something unconventional.
This week the reading was Seeking which was about Emily Pilloton, who is an Industrial Designer, critic, writer, and activist. She went to the Art Institute of Chicago, and started as a product designer. I found many of her designs very inspiring and clever. For example, her earth day tote bag and the way she made it look like a plastic bag was really clever and to bring attention to plastic bags and how they harm the environment. Overall, I really enjoyed this reading and learning more about who Emily Pilloton is as a person and a designer.
