This week, I finished up my ad campaign and presented it class. I am proud of my overall designs and felt that I successfully stuck to the vision, and it has a clear archetype that showed throughout my campaign. I really enjoyed this project and had a lot of fun creating the characters and incorporating them into an app, website, and billboards. My favorite part of this project was truly the process of thinking about a crazy law, then trying to incorporate it into an ad campaign.
During this project, I struggled creating my background for my UI and billboards. Initially, I went for a wrinkled paper background to match my hand-drawn letterforms. After changing to a more cyber, video game typeface, I started to change my background to match this. I used close up photos of pinball machines and distorted them, but the background was too busy and compromised readability. Taking this into consideration, I decided to go with a photo from far away that was low quality which I further distorted, leaving it with an almost geometric feel. This ended up solving my problem and worked well with my typeface. This week the Figma module talked about how Config 2023 introduced Variables and how they are incorporated across UI, typography, and even animation. Variables are a big break through because it can make things more dynamic like switching from light to dark mode.
